Cllr Nick Mearing-Smith serves as a Conservative Councillor for Edgware on Barnet Council. First elected in 2021, he has been a strong voice for local residents, combining his professional expertise in finance and business with a commitment to community service.

Nick brings extensive experience from a career in investment banking and corporate leadership. He has advised and managed companies across the technology, media, telecommunications, and energy sectors, including raising significant equity and debt financing for major international firms. His background as a chartered accountant and senior executive equips him with a deep understanding of financial performance, governance, and strategic planning - skills he now applies to his council responsibilities.

On Barnet Council, Nick has served on key committees including the Financial Performance and Contracts Committee and the Licensing Committee. He also contributes to wider governance through roles on the Governance, Audit, Risk Management and Standards Committee, the Pension Fund Committee, and the Standards Sub-Committee. His work ensures that council decisions are financially sound, transparent, and accountable.

Nick is particularly engaged with issues that directly affect Edgware residents. He has spoken out on major local developments, such as the proposed Broadwalk Centre redevelopment, highlighting concerns about scale, density, infrastructure, and community impact. His approach reflects a commitment to practical, resident-focused politics -listening to local voices and ensuring that growth aligns with the needs of the community.

Beyond council duties, Nick represents Barnet on external bodies including the London Councils Transport and Environment Committee and charitable trusts such as Day’s and Atkinson’s Almshouse Charity.

Cllr Mearing-Smith combines professional rigour with grassroots engagement, working to safeguard Edgware’s character while promoting sustainable development and effective local governance.
