Libraries: improved services and longer opening hours

We value Barnet’s excellent library service, which is why Barnet Council is keeping all libraries open and extending opening hours in several locations.  The Council is also investing £6million to improve library buildings across the borough and at least four libraries are due to move into new, modern premises.  Modernising the libraries means that we can avoid closing half the libraries as neighbouring councils have had to.

East Barnet library, which will be managed as a partnership with Inclusion Barnet, will move to a modern, upgraded new home at the New Barnet Leisure Centre in 2019.

Already, 1,000 metres of new shelving has been added to Chipping Barnet library, which will be provided with a wider range of stock. The library will be closed over the summer for more improvements and will re-open in the autumn.
