The announcement by the Prime Minister of £11m of new funding to improve security at Jewish schools, synagogues and community buildings has been welcomed by Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet. The announcement was made by the Prime Minister in a speech to the Community Security Trust (CST) Annual fundraising dinner in central London on last week.

"I am deeply concerned at the rise in anti-Semitic attacks and incidents in the UK and about the appalling terrorist attacks on members of the Jewish community in France and Denmark. I have a long track record of campaigning against anti-Semitism, going back to the 1980s when I was a student."

"I was in close touch with the Jewish community and the CST following the increase in anti-Semitic incidents in the summer and I raised their concerns directly with the police and the Home Secretary. I also had the opportunity to raised this matter at the highest levels of government and hear directly from the Prime Minister on how seriously he takes this matter. I therefore warmly welcome the further funding announced by the Prime Minister to strengthen security for the Jewish community.”

"I would like to pay tribute to all the people who have helped deliver this result including the CST, the Jewish Chronicle and the All-Party Parliamentary Group against anti-Semitism and my Conservative colleagues, Matthew Offord, MP for Hendon, and Mike Freer, MP for Finchley and Golders Green."

"This is a further illustration of this Conservative-led Government's commitment to combating anti-Semitism."

The funds announced by the Prime Minister include:

(i)   over £7 million of new money to fund guards for all Jewish private schools and colleges.

(ii)  £3 million synagogues and other potentially vulnerable Jewish community buildings

(iii) £1.5 million in capital to help build a state of the art Mission Control centre for CST to enable it to respond rapidly to those who need their help right across our Jewish communities.

These funds are in addition to the funding already provided by the Government for additional security for Jewish state schools, which will continue.
