Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, attended a prayer meeting on Saturday with the Plymouth Brethren at their meeting hall in her constituency in Mays Lane.

Speaking after the meeting, Theresa said: “I am a great supporter of the Plymouth Brethren in my constituency. I have known members of the Brethren for many years. I have enjoyed working with them on a number of issues, including the excellent schools which they run. I very much valued a chance to join part of their prayer meeting and to meet more of the community.”

“The Brethren’s straight forward Christian message will appeal to many people. I really appreciate the work they do for our community, much of which is designed to promote understanding of Biblical texts amongst my constituents.”

“I am concerned about the threat to the charitable status of Brethren meeting halls and have been working with colleagues in the House of Commons to see if a solution can be found which fully recognises the public benefit which the Brethren provide.”
