As part of her campaign opposing a new waste plant at Pinkham Way, Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has urged her constituents to send in responses to a consultation being run by the North London Waste Authority to support expansion of waste treatment facilities at their Edmonton site.
Ms Villiers has run a long campaign against the proposed Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) plant at Pinkham Way. The proposals were dropped last year, but the future of Pinkham Way remains uncertain. The North London Waste Authority (NLWA) is now consulting on plans to meet waste disposal needs with additional facilities on their current site in Edmonton. If these get the go ahead, it makes it far less likely that Pinkham Way will be targeted again as a potential waste site.
Ms Villiers said: “I campaigned against NLWA's waste plant plans for Pinkham Way and was delighted when they were defeated last year. But Pinkham Way isn’t safe yet. Most of the site is still owned by the NLWA. If their new plans for expansion of waste facilities in Edmonton go ahead, the threat of a waste plant at Pinkham Way would be dramatically reduced, and hopefully killed off altogether.”
“So I’m urging everyone who has campaigned to save Pinkham Way to respond to the NLWA consultation and support the Edmonton proposals.”
Subject to the NLWA being successful with their application for the Edmonton site, they have said that there are no immediate plans for them to develop Pinkham Way for waste purposes. Their consultation is open until 27 January 2015 and can be supported here.
