Crossrail 2

A week after signing a letter calling for additional backing for Crossrail 2, local MP Theresa Villiers has welcomed the news that Transport Secretary Chris Grayling held a productive meeting with the London Mayor to discuss ways forward for the project. The letter, signed by over 50 MPs from across the country, called for urgent backing for Crossrail 2 to allow trains to be running by 2033, supporting thousands of new jobs and homes.

It is proposed that Crossrail 2 would come to New Southgate station which is used by people living in the southern part of the Chipping Barnet constituency in areas such as South Friern and Friern Barnet. The line would provide a new fast and efficient services to various destinations in central and south west London.

Crossrail One is due to open in December 2018 as the Elizabeth Line. Barnet Northern Line users will be able to pick up the new line by changing at Tottenham Court Road. Local MP Theresa Villiers has been a long-term supporter of Crossrail One, and held responsibility for the project during her time as Rail Minister, helping to lay foundations at Farringdon Station in 2010.  Ms Villiers has recently been appointed as vice-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Crossrail 2.

Theresa said: “Crossrail 2 is an important project. Once it goes ahead, it will help London keep growing as a city, support new homes, and provide valuable new travel options for constituents living in the southern part of my constituency. I welcome the Conservative Government’s decision to invest in the preparation work needed to take the project forward. Today’s announcement by the Mayor and the Government marks further progress towards turning Crossrail 2 into reality. I will continue to work in support of Crossrail 2.”
