Only a few days after being announced as a potential buyer for The Spires Shopping Centre and Barnet Market, Redefine International have now withdrawn their bid. This news was disclosed by Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, following contact with Friends of Barnet Market.

Richard Hulme of Savills (agents for UBS Triton who currently own the two properties) today informed Friends of Barnet Market that Redefine International were no longer proposing to buy the Spires or the Market.

Reacting to this latest development in the long controversy surrounding Barnet Market, Theresa Villiers said:

“The continuing uncertainty over the future of Barnet Market is a real concern for me and many of my constitutents. It is vital that the future ownership of the Market site is resolved as soon as possible, whether that means UBS deciding to take the property off the market and retain it, or finding a new buyer.”

“Barnet Market has been part of our community and our economy for over 600 years. It is hugely important that it gets the new facilities it desperately needs. I am therefore today repeating my call that plans to sell the Market must not hold up progress on delivering the improvements that we have been promised by UBS.”

Ms Villiers continues to campaign with Friends of Barnet Market to secure the long term future of Barnet Market.
