Get involved in the campaign for faster broadband in Barnet

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, is urging her constituents to get involved in the campaign for faster broadband in Barnet. This article gives some tips on how to do this.

Although around 91% of premises in the Chipping Barnet constituency can subscribe to fast fibre broadband, those who can’t are suffering real inconvenience. There are significant gaps in provision in the High Barnet area, with problems in Totteridge as well.

Theresa has been working with residents affected and with the Barnet Society. She has been pressing BT to include Barnet in its next round of fibre upgrades. She has also lobbied the Mayor and the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport on this important issue.

She is encouraging constituents to get involved in the campaign by registering their interest in fast fibre broadband with BT and Virgin. The more people who do this, the stronger the commercial case for extending fibre broadband in Barnet.

Contrary to recent reports in the Barnet Times, BT have not yet confirmed whether Barnet will be included in the next round of broadband upgrades, but an announcement is expected soon.

The only exception is that BT are definitely upgrading cabinet 52 on Hadley Parade/Barnet High Street and the cabinets serving Pine Grove, Harmsworth Way, Northcliffe Drive and Totteridge Village because local residents are funding the cost.
